"I travelled to San Francisco in 1995 and came across Caffe Roma on Columbus Avenue, and I decided that I would love to have a cafe and roastery one day. Three years later (1998), we commissioned Stephen Opperman & Associates to draw the first concept of the roastery was created. In September 2005, we commissioned Douglas Wallace to create the final design and commission of our Roastery which by now the company was 7 years old. Having spent 3 years with Douglas Wallace we will open our Roastery on October the 1st 2008, 13 years after visiting its inspiration in San Francisco, Caffe Roma.
Java Republic Roasting Company opened Ireland's first purpose-built Carbon Neutral Coffee Roastery and Café in October 2008 to further maintain, develop and strengthen trade within the Island of Ireland and with their international buyers. The Company had raised €1 million from a BES scheme through Cronin & Company Accountants and had been backed with a further €6 million from Bank of Ireland to build a 26 000 sq foot plant on 2.2 acres in Ballycoolin (North of Blanchardstown.) The Company acquired the land from Park Developments through Manus Agnew of Quinn Agnew Douglas Wallace had been commissioned to design the Roastery Café and the production plant.
