January 1998 : David McKernan begins 19 month research project on coffee roasting and branding


September 1998 : David McKernan leave Campbell Bewley Group


January 1999 : David McKernan secures funding for the company


May 1999 :  Java Republic moves into our first roastery


September 1999 :  After three months of developing blends Java Republic sells its first case of coffee to Weston Aerodrome


1999 : Java Republic begins trading with the aim of:

  • taking advantage of a gap in the premium market coffee sector in Ireland
  • sharing David McKernan's passion for fresh, handroasted coffee
  • setting the industry standard for ethics in coffee

The company raises funds through BES support & Enterprise Ireland


2000 : Company becomes profitable in second year of trading


December 2001 :  Midlands distributor is appointed


August 2002 : North East Distributor is appointed


July 2004 : West of Ireland Distributor is appointed


July 2004 : South West of Ireland Distributor is appointed


August 2005 : Java Republic appoints Douglas Wallace as architects for the new Roastery


September 2005 : Java Republic enters the retail market


2007 : Company continues to expand product range with substantial growth in tea sales


August 2007 : South East of Ireland Distributor appointed


November 2007 : Northern Ireland Distributor appointed


October 2008 : New production facility and The Roastery Coffee House opens
