A vital part of our Carbon Neutral Strategy has been the installation on site of an Energy Cabin.
Our Energy Cabin is a containerised wood pellet boiler solution that arrived on site ready for installation to our new premises.
The unit operates on a carbon neutral basis as its main fuel (wood pellets) produces bioenergy.
Bio-energy is the utilisation of solar energy that has been bound up in biomass durin gthe process of photosynthesis. The photosynthesis process uses solar energy to combine carbon dioxide from the atmosphere with water and various nutrients from the soil to produce plant matter - biomass. Bio-energy is therefore a renewable energy source.
As the trees that eventually went on to produce the wood pellets that are used in our Energy Cabin were growing, they absorbed carbon dioxide as part of the photosynthesis process. This absorbed carbon dioxide is equal to that released in the combustion process and hence the unit is carbon neutral.
The Energy Cabin has been installed by Renewable Energy Management Services (REMS www.rems.ie ) REMS are an award-winning Energy Supply Company specialising in the provision of energy solutions for buildings and organisations through renewable resources.
Early in 2008, Java Republic entered into discussions with REMS on the best way to employ renewable resources to provide heating and domestic hot water for our office areas and exciting new restuarant/coffee house. After some careful examination REMS recommended the installation of a 100kW Emax M Energry Cabin. The Emax M combines a 100 kW boiler house with a 13.5 tonne wood pellet store in a wooden cabin construction. The unit was procured by REMS from Energy Cabin (www.energycabin.com ), an Austrian-based award-winning company who has vast experience in supplying containerised boiler solutions across Europe.
As REMS is an Energy Supply Company, this has enable us to enter into an ESCo contract with REMS, thus minimising the intial capital investment that we had to make.We pay a standard charge bimonthly plus a uit charge per kW hour (kWh.) This advantegous contract structure allows us to achieve our main aim: procure green energy that is still affordable.
The technologically advanced Energy Cabin, provides energy on demand. Its performance can be viewed remotely by our Energy supplier REMS using a specialised visualisation package that allows data to be transmitted of the GSM network.
