Born in the Philippines, raised and residing in Canada, Artist Leanne Laine was commissioned to create 'A Toast for the Roast' for the new Java Republic Roastery. Leanne Laine and her husband Stuart Laine founded their company Leanne Laine Fine Art Inc.in 2003 when her works started to become a widely recognised genre not only in the consumer market but also the business market world-wide. A Toast for the Roast
'I wanted this piece to identify with various aspects of Java Republic that jumped out at me while reading through the Java Republic brochure and devouring your exquisite coffee and tea. I wanted to ensure that your painting emphasized how uniquely great your coffee is. So beyond your signature cup, beyond your 21 minute slow roast, your black lid, I chose the natural elements that are among your specialist growers around the world. Leaves, beans, and a general "roast" becomes the background to set the stage for The Java Republic cup. While a splash of coffee is wonderful, it needed more to define your coffee. So, subtly set within your splash, is one of my favourite techniques that I have enjoyed from your company, the wonderful Latte Art. When you put all these elements together, this original art piece pays tribute to your growers, your roasting techniques and your incredible flavour. This is why this indeed is A Toast for the Roast'
