Green is the new black!
That’s why this year we’re taking part in Green Friday, an initiative to turn Black Friday green. The campaign, which is led by Kilkenny Shop aims to encourage people to shop more consciously and shop local.
As the world prepares for Black Friday, several businesses have opted out, taking preference for Green Friday. Kilkenny Shop has spearheaded this movement which urges shoppers to support their local businesses to keep creativity and innovation thriving in their local communities. Several retailers have pledged their support of the campaign sharing the #ShopLocal across their social channels. As suppliers of Ireland’s most premium coffee and 100% organic tea, our hot beverages can be found in over 1,200 businesses throughout Ireland, many of whom are independent cafés and restaurants.
Coffee with a Conscience
Our ethos, which forms the backbone of everything we do, is “Coffee with a Conscience”. This year we were delighted to celebrate our 20th anniversary. From the beginning, we recognised that as a business, it is vital to be aware of the impact of your activities on the environment and on the local community. All of our coffee is locally roasted in the world’s first purpose-built carbon neutral roastery in Ballycoolin, Dublin. As part of our commitment to transparency and quality, visitors to The Roastery & Café at Java Republic HQ can see exactly how our premium quality coffee is made. Our coffee roasting is done behind floor to ceiling glass walls making every stage of the process visible.
Not only is our coffee hand-roasted locally but we also support local communities through our CSR incentives. Our most recent local initiative is a collaborative partnership with Oberstown Children Detention Centre. Through an on-campus coffee education programme, twenty- four young people have become certified Baristas and received their Barista Skills for Beginners Certificate. The initiative is designed to provide the young people with the skillset and confidence to be able to embark on a professional barista career once they leave Oberstown.
