Sustainability

We have long been concerned with our footprint on the planet. We felt our business would be better served by building the world’s first purpose built, carbon neutral coffee roastery. Here are some of our latest sustainability objectives…

Sustainable Coffee

In April 2013 Java Republic joined the Origin Green programme and became an approved member in July 2013. Origin Green is the only sustainability programme in the world that operates on a national scale, uniting government, the private sector and food producers. It enables Ireland’s farmers and producers to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets – reducing environmental impact, serving local communities more effectively and protecting the extraordinary rich natural resources that our country enjoys.

We work to offset our carbon footprint with carbon credits.

We use a company called Carbon Clear to monitor our carbon usage on an annual basis. By doing this we can offset our carbon emissions – credit, to sustainability projects within our coffee buying regions. We are currently offsetting our credits to Fuel Switch Project in Brazil.

Smart Recycling

We compost excess beans, grinds and coffee chaff from our Roastery. Our onsite café, the Roastery, bag our coffee grinds free for our customers which are good for keeping those pesky slugs at bay in your garden!

Coffee Beans Ireland

Our hession sacks have many uses but our customers find them good for protecting their trees and plants in the winter, keeping their turf dry and storing wood for the winter. Hession sacks are available at the front of our Roastery café to take home. Our café furniture was made using hession sacks and wooden pallets.
